Rarity : Known from more than 5 localities in Madagascar.
Notes : This species is characterized by its rather robust habit; its medium-sized to rather large, lanceolate to lance-oblong, stiff-textured leaves with a sharply acumiante apex; its pedunculate, branched, lax, many-flowered inflorescences; its subsessile to pedicellate flowers with a short lobed calyx limb; its pink or red corollas with the tube 1.5-2.2 cm long; and its medium-sized fruits. Its leaf size varies, but often (though not always) the leaves are rounded to truncate at the base. Ixora platythyrsa is rather commonly collected.
