N. Rakotonirina & R. Ramananjanahary, no date: Razafimandimbison G., 2002 published in the Annals of the Missouri Botanical Garden that the distribution and habitat are unknown but it is possible Breonia madagascariensis was collected from the east coast.
C.M. Taylor, VIII 2011: Breonia madagascariensis has been extensively confused in herbarium identifications with Breonia macrocarpa. Breonia macrocarpa is rather commonly collected, and is characterized by its large, leathery leaves that are long-petiolate, elliptic to ovate (i.e., broadest at or below the middle), and densely hirtellous or velutinous below; vs. subsessile, obovate, and glabrous below in Breonia madagascariensis. When Razafimandimbison (2002) studied Breonia, Breonia madagascariensis was only known from the type and paratype materials, however it has more recently been recollected a few times (e.g., Randrianaivo 665).
