Notes:
This species is characterized by its small triangular stipules, medium-sized to rather small leaves with the tertiary venation finely reticulated and raised on the upper surface, inflorescences that are predominantly axillary and shortly cymose with the flowers subsessile to very shortly pedicellate in small clusters, short calyx lobes, medium-sized corollas, and capsules borne on thickened pedicels or basal portions. Puff & Buchner (1994) distinguished this species in large part based on the leaves with the distinctive reticulated venation on the upper surfacea and the flower and fruit arrangement, and noted that sometimes the fruit bases become so thickened that the fruits appear to be shortly fused together. Similar fruits are apparently found in Danais magna. Otherwise Danais aurantiaca is quite similar to Danais fragrans, Danais cernua, Danais distinctinervia, and Danais rhamnifolia. Similar raised reticulated tertiary venation on the upper leaf surface is also found in Danais pubescens.
