General/Distribution :
A large genus of c. 900 species in the tropics and subtropics of the Old and the New Worlds. Only 2 species are found in Pakistan.

Leaves ovate, often unequally sided, entire, serrate or double serrate; acute to acuminate; base often oblique. Male flower: Perianth 2+2. Female flower: Perianth 2-5; ovary 2-4-locular, inferior. Fruit a capsule, usually 3-angled or 3-winged.
