Type(s) of accepted name: H. Perrier de la Bâthie - 6904 - P - (BC:P00551256), (BC:P00274361), (BC:P00551255)
Notes: This species is characterized by its rather slender habit; its elliptic to narrowly elliptic leaves with the apex acuminate; its often somewhat short stipule awns; its subsessile, few-flowered, congested-cymose inflorescences; its lobed calyx limb; its flower buds that are acute at the apex; and its medium-sized to rather large large (for Tricalysia) fruits. It is similar to Tricalysia orientalis, with longer stipule awns and a truncate to shortly lobed calyx limb. Tricalysia analamazoatrensis is apparently rather frequent in its range; it is well represented by modern herbarium specimens due to its being common in several floristic inventory project sites. The development of the calyx lobes varies apparently more than described by Ranarivelo-Randriamboavonjy et al. (2007); they described the calyx limb as having the lobes 0.4-0.8 mm long, but these are sometimes as short as 0.2 mm long on some specimens annotated by them, thus making separation of this species from Tricalysia orientalis sometimes problematic. Some some specimens from Fianarantsoa seem to match Tricalysia analamazoatrensis, but are not included here pending study by the genus specialist.
