Notes:
This species is characterized by its somewhat robust habit; its elliptic leaves with few secondary veins and the apex acuminate; its rather short stipule awns; its subsessile, several-flowered, subcapitate inflorescences; its flower buds that are acuminate at the apex; and its medium-sized to large (for Tricalysia) fruits. The secondary leaf veins frequently arch markedly and extend for half or more the length of the blade. This species is similar to Tricalysia ambrensis subsp. coriacea, with at least shortly developed inflorescence axes and pedicels, flower buds that are obtuse to rounded at the apex. Both of these species often dry with a markedly pale color.
