Notes
:
This species is characterized by its dense velvety pubescence, its generally oblanceolate leaves, its dark reddish brown drying color, its small axillary cymes, its relatively well developed calyx limbs, and its well developed tubular-funnelform corollas. The flowers are produced generally at nodes well below the apex, and appear to be pendulous; in general aspect in flower Psychotria antisrananensis is similar to species of Ophiorrhiza of the Paleotropics, and some montane species of Psychotria such as Psychotria convergens of the Neotropics. Psychotria antsirananensis is similar to Psychotria andramontaensis, but Psychotria andramontaensis differs in its inflorescences that are generally glomerulate (i.e., sessile and unbranched) and it shorter calyx limb.
