Notes : This species is characterized by its short velvety dense pubescence; obovate leaves that are generally broadly rounded to truncate with a very short deltate tip and are glabrous on the upper surface; reddish brown drying color; short cymose axillary or regularly pseudoaxillary inflorescences; small calyx limbs and corollas; and small fruits. It is quite similar to Pychotria andapae, but Psychotria andapae differs in its hirsute pubescence and leaves with scattered hirsute trichomes on the upper surface. There is variation in pubescence density and length and the development of the submarginal veins on the leaves, and more than one species may be included here but the material available is not adequate to evaluate this.
