Notes
:
This species is characterized by its well developed elliptic to narrowly elliptic leaves, rather dense hirsute pubescence, well developed bilobed stipules, pedunculate branched inflorescences with the flowers in glomerules and reduced bracts, and its calyx ca. 2 mm long. There is some difficulty in confirming which species was described as Psychotria rufovillosa without study in P (so far not available to CMT), because there are several generally similar species in eastern and northern Madagascar. Here the plants from higher elevations in northern Madagascar, with significantly larger stipules and calyx limb and well developed bracts, are excluded from the circumscription of Psychotria rufovillosa. !CMT 2013
