This species is characterized by its narrowly elliptic, medium-sized leaves, its dense short velvety pubescence, its bilobed stipules, its pedunculate branched inflorescences with the flowers mostly in dense groups, its well developed calyx that is about as long as the corolla tube, and its robuse fruits that are often borne on stipes or pedicels to 1 cm long. This species is circumscribed more narrowly here than by Bremekamp, in particular specimens with broadly elliptic large leaves are excluded.
