Notes
:
CMT, IX 2013: This species is characterized by its "trash bucket" habit, as a low unbranched shrub with large leaves that are subessile and rounded at the base and clustered so that they collect detritus; its terminal, subsessile to shortly peduculate, corymbiform, flat-topped inflorescences that are branched to 2-3 orders; and its pedicellate small yellow flowers. Bremekamp noted in the protolgue of Mapouria humiilis that this species was unlike any others in the Madagascar Psychotrieae tribe, and that he had not seen its fruits. Psychotria species of similar habit are found in most wet tropical floras, and several additional but un-named species with this habit have been documented from easstern Madagscar. Bremekamp's generic classification was based mainly on fruit characters, so his reason for including this in a particular species group of Mapouria was based mainly on its yellow flowers and lack of domatia on the leaves. The Mad Cat data here was provided by someone else; I have seen this species documented from Toamasina only, from 100-250 m, from the protected area only of Manarara, and from only 4 different localities.
