Notes
:
This species is characterized by its oblanceolate, stiff-textured, generally medium-sized leaves with the higher order venation mostly not visible and few or no domatia; its bilobed stipules; its rather short but pedunculate, several-flowered inflorescences; its subsessile flowers with a well developed calyx limb and short yellow corollas; and its red, medium-sized fruits. As Bremekamp noted in the protologue, Psychotria ancarensis is similar to Psychotria berizokae, which is found in the same region and habitats; Psychotria berizokae generally has broader, thinner-textured leaves, larger stipules, and a shorter calyx limb.
