Notes
:
This species is characterized by its rather robust habit; its rather large, elliptic to broadly elliptic leaves with domatia and well developed petioles; its rather small (3-5 mm long), triangular, entire stipules; its cymose, pedunculate to sessile and fasciculate inflorescences; its small subsessile flowers with rather short yellow corollas; and its rather small subglobose fruits. It was originally reported from the Andringitra Massif in southeastern Madagascar; a specimen form the Tsaratarana Massif in northern Madagascar matches the type and the description and is also included here. Psychotria miae is similar to Psychotria bridsoniae, which was described from the Tsaratarana Massif and differs in its much larger stipules, ca. 22 mm long, and flowers that are separated on pedicels or inflorescence axes. Neither of these species is particularly well documented, and they may deserve re-evaluation as to their distinction now that a specimen matching Psychotria miae has been found in the same region as Psychotria bridsoniae.
