Widespread although riverbanks and lakesides, and undoubtedly more common than the relatively few herbarium specimens would suggest. We regard it as native, although it may be introduced and naturalized. Malagasy material has often been wrongly referred to
T. angustifolia
, but that sp. is probably confined to temperate regions of the world.
