Plants slender to rather robust. Stems prostrate, more or less irregularly branched. Stem and branch leaves more or less similar, often concave, linear-lanceolate, lanceolate, ovate-lanceolate, broadly ovate, or elliptical, acute, apiculate, shortly to slenderly acuminate; margins entire or serrulate; costae often reaching mid-leaf or beyond, not projecting at tips; median leaf cells elongate-rhomboidal to linear; alar cells differentiated, cells shorter, broader, shortly rectangular or quadrate. Autoicous. Perichaetial leaves sheathing at base, slenderly acuminate, curved at apex. Setae reddish, smooth; capsules inclined to horizontal, ovoid to cylindrical, slightly curved, constricted below mouth when dry; opercula conic at base, often long rostrate; peristome double; exostome teeth papillose above, cross-striolate below, trabeculate on ventral surface; endostome segments lanceolate, perforate; basal membrane high; cilia nodulose. Calyptrae cucullate, smooth. Spores spherical, yellowish green, smooth or papillose.
