Taxa of uncertain systematic position (according to Labat & Schatz in Novon 12: 201-205. 2002): Eugenia tanalensis Baker, E. cotinifolioides H. Perrier, E. cupulifera H. Perrier, E. goudotiana H. Perrier have now been resolved (see below for correct synonymy). In Fl. Madagasc. 2 spp treated in Myrtus and Syzygium are now included in Eugenia.

Eugenia aromatica Baill., the clove, is widely cultivated near the east coast, but is not known to be naturalized.

Several species are grown locally for their edible fruits.
