The treatment by De Groot adopts very broad species concepts, and there is considerable morphological diversity within the material available for Madagascar that was (or should be) referred to Aristolochia albida Duch. following this treatment. Malagasy material of the genus would benefit from a closer look.
The name A. aurita is based on a Malagasy type (Pervillé 637?).
Several spp. are widely grown as ornamentals, and some of these have been recorded from Madagascar.
